As Pensionary of Holland, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt (Amersfoort 1547- The Hague 1619) was the most important administrator in the Republic of the Seven United Provinces. He stood at the cradle of the Dutch East India Company and had a major role in the Eighty Years' War. He worked closely with Prince Maurice, the son of William of Orange, who finally accused him of treason. Oldenbarnevelt was publicly beheaded in the Binnenhof at the age of 71. Was the execution justified or did he deserve better?

In this theater lecture Goedkoop will also bring history to life in a fascinating way, allowing the audience to imagine themselves back in time. The performance will be accompanied live by pianist/composer Thijs Borsten, soprano Henriette Feith and lutenist David van Ooijen.
