Grazing cows, black-tailed godwits and lapwings taking flight; endless vistas - grass, water, clouds. That is Arkemheen-Eemland, voted one of the twenty most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands.

An area of rare plants and meadow bird habitat. A long history has emerged from the struggle against water. An area to discover; rare plants such as valerian, cattail, sky wrenches and arrowwort grow in the wet moorland. And it is an important breeding area for meadow birds such as godwit and lapwing.

Besides the endless vistas and beautiful flora and fauna, you will also find characteristic villages such as the harbor village of Spakenburg and the ribbon villages of Eembrugge and Eemdijk. Discovering the area can be done in many ways thanks to the many hiking possibilities, bicycle paths, pumping stations, mini campsites, farm stores and tea terraces.
