Musica Mundo: A World Music Festival in Amersfoort

Music bridges different communities and cultures. It brings people together, regardless of background, and creates a sense of belonging. This is what the world needs.

Musica Mundo provides a platform for artists from around the world to showcase their talents and share their stories. From Thursday, June 27 to Sunday, June 30, 2024, you can enjoy a variety of artists for free at the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof in Amersfoort. For the seventh time Musica Mundo brings a special festival with renowned artists and young talent from home and abroad.

A Focus on African Artists

The focus is on artists from African countries. On Friday, SAHAD from Senegal will open the program. From different parts of Africa come Bamba Wassoulou Groove, DJAM with Bounaly Traoré, Jocelyn Balu & Borumba and Kiala & the Afroblaster.

Rock and Diversity

There is also a high rock content. Massada brings percussion rock with Latin rhythms, Korishanti mixes pop music with upbeat Italian folk, Majaz mixes rock and jazz with the khaleeji music of the Arabian Peninsula. And Lazywall will blow you away with their impressive Moroccan alt-rock!

Local Talent and World Repertoire

Once again, two groups from Amersfoort, Wilskracht and Slagwerk KAMV, have renewed their program for this festival with worldly repertoire. On Sunday afternoon, the Musica Mundo Orchestra will premiere with new artists. The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra and Thijs Borsten have invited Turkish opera star Aylin Sezer and Moroccan singer Zainab Afailal for a unique fusion of classical music from various cultures.

Two Parades and New Program

This year there are no less than two parades. On Thursday, June 27, percussion group Bloco033 marches through downtown streets and squares with Brazilian samba, and on Saturday, brass band Remork & Karkaba travels with Moroccan gnawa musicians and dancers from Neptune Square to the festival grounds starting at noon.

New to the program are DJs spinning on the square between and after the acts and an afterparty with an Afro jam session in Fluor that will continue into the night.
