Outfitted in boring sweaters and dull glasses, failed professor and stay-at-home dad Paul Matthews (a starring role by Nicolas Cage), becomes a celebrity when countless people inexplicably start dreaming about him at night. As a result, people begin to see Paul in a different, much more positive, light. Old acquaintances and new admirers suddenly report in, all with the same opening line, "I saw you in my dream.
Paul's students begin to appreciate him, his relationship with his wife improves, and he even becomes the subject of erotic interest. Paul is forced to deal with his new stardom. However, when his nightly performances take a dark turn, his life unfolds into a horrific nightmare and is heading for disaster.
