The warm sound of Spain is never far away in the music of Bernard van Rossum; he was born there and grew up there as the child of an English mother and a Dutch father. On his quartet album Trampoline, he evokes the feeling of hanging in the air for a moment, free and uninhibited. With it, the saxophonist and composer distances himself from his successful BvR Flamenco Big Band and seeks space in flowing rhythms, inspired by his teenage years as a drummer.

In his quartet, he plays with top pianist Xavi Torres, double bassist Jort Terwijn and Joan Terol on drums, the same rhythm section of his Flamenco big band.

After his studies in Barcelona and the US, Bernard van Rossum obtained Bachelor and Master degrees in jazz saxophone at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In addition to the Bernard van Rossum Quartet, he also leads the BvR Flamenco Big Band. In 2022, van Rossum received the Rogier van Otterloo award, and with it a composition commission for the Young Metropole Orchestra.

In addition to several international tours, Bernard has performed as a leader in world-class venues and festivals such as North Sea Jazz festival, Flamenco Biennale, Rotterdam International Jazz Festival, Capetown Jazz Festival, Eurojazz Mexico, Bimhuis, Tivoli, de Doelen, Jazz in Duketown, Amersfoort Jazz, Grachten Festival, Festival de Jazz de San Javier, Festival Internacional de Jazz de Alicante. Bernard is also active as a sideman in projects such as the Vuma Levin Quintet and Sam Newbould Quintet, and teaches at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam (Codarts).
