L'Abbe Pierre

Take a look in advance

Born into a wealthy family, Henri Grouès decides on his 18th birthday to distribute his entire inheritance to the poor. After years in the convent and as a resistance fighter in World War II, he is elected a member of parliament in Paris. There, Abbé Pierre (as he is now known) used his income to provide a future and a home for the weakest in society. His anger at injustice made him rebellious and rebellious, but also vulnerable and inspiring.

Abbé Pierre can be known as the founder of the Emmaus movement, consisting of living-working communities, with the goal of helping the poor and homeless. Emmaus is (until today) also active in the Netherlands, in Utrecht and Eindhoven, for example, with volunteer groups, living-working communities and thrift stores.
