Talented tennis star Tashi Duncan (Zendaya) is dating equally promising rising star Patrick (Josh O'Connor) but soon feels attraction for the less talented Art Donaldson (Mike Feist). Patrick and Art are good friends and credit each other with their successes on the field. The fact that they both become infatuated with Tashi changes this and adds a hefty dose of competition to their friendship. Tashi seems to be on her way to a great career, when an injury throws a spanner in the works and sidelins her permanently.

Years later, Tashi and Art are married and Tashi has become Art's coach. She enrolled Art in a Challenger event. Here Tashi and Art meet Patrick again, whose promising career is over. Rivalry and passion flares up again.
