JCI Eemland is bringing the popular event Sint Joris and the Dragon Boat Race back to the Eemhaven in Amersfoort! On Saturday, June 29, teams in Dragon Boats will race against each other to raise money for charity.
Dragon boats are, in traditional Chinese style, long, slender open boats decorated with a dragon's head on the front and a dragon's tail on the back. Each boat has a coxswain, eight paddlers and a drummer. Organizing the St. George and Dragon Boat Race raises money for the charity Week Away Foundation.

The race
The event will consist of a team of rowers in Dragon boats gliding across the water with powerful strokes. Teams compete for the coveted victory trophy, while from the wharf participants are cheered on. Each team sails a number of races against other teams based on a pool system. This is followed by quarter and semifinal races. In the grand final, the last two teams compete in a direct duel for the title.

"This is not only an opportunity to showcase your sporting skills, but also to contribute in a significant way to the well-being of families who are a little less fortunate.
