Wittel.

Withoos and van Wittel

Withoos taught van Wittel in Amersfoort in the art of painting
and the making of cityscapes in particular. It would not be discoverable that both worked on Gezicht op Amersfoort, which has now recently been restored and is back on display at the museum.

Founder Vedutism

Apprentice Van Wittel went to Italy and, under the name Vanvitelli, emerged as the founder of
vedutism. In 2022, Museum Flehite succeeded in acquiring two Italian cityscapes by his hand. View of the Tiber in Rome and view of the Darsena in Naples have just come out of the restoration studio and are on display again in Museum Flehite.
