Rietveld Pavilion The Zonnehof

The Rietveld Pavilion De Zonnehof is the center for photography and visual culture of Amersfoort and surroundings. The exhibitions make connections between professional and amateur photography; established artists and up-and-coming talent; photography and related art forms. Besides exhibitions you will find various online and offline events: from lectures to summer schools and Galerie Rietveldpavilion where photographs and photo books are sold.

The 1959 De Zonnehof exhibition pavilion is the first art hall in the Netherlands and one of the most important works by architect Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964). It is an example of functional, business-like building after the war.

The pavilion was designed by Rietveld on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the city of Amersfoort and executed in the style of New Building. The opening took place in 1959. Rietveld also designed a lectern, furniture, coat racks and display cases for the building.
